Anyone tried a cheap Ethernet / IP to rs232 boxe?

Post by kasmonkey » Wed Oct 24, 2012 2:10 pm

Hi,

Just been searching ebay for a cheap IP to rs232 solution as it would cost me £110 several times for all my gadgets round the house and found a few on ebay starting from £30 upwards.

Has anyone tried any cheaper boxes/solutions with DemoPad?

Received a Global Cache iTach RS232 today, works great!

Keene Electronics also do one which I am going to try out next. I already own quite a few Keene IP to IR modules and they work great as well.

Try this

They do ebay if you want to try one out instead but I use them without any issues.

So do you think then any rs-232 to IP/Ethernet adapter will work like these on ebay because some are about £20+

I know they work because I have five in my system. Don't get the middle one though as it is TTL. The RS485 also works with Heatmiser systems.

The software is not as polished when it comes to set up but they do the job if you have the patience.

Thanks

I ordered two from your link.

Is there any complicated setup for it to work with demopad or is it a case of adding the IP and port and it just works.

Thanks again for the advice :D

Pretty much. The software is basic but the instructions are quite easy to follow. It depends upon what you are connecting the converter to that governs how easy the set up is. The other pain is going to be the firewall on the computer you are using for setup. Get them sorted and it is pretty much the same as any other converter. I have used an Omega also and that is good because it has a built in web server but otherwise the set is the same. I have mine set up as TCP servers so if you read the instructions for that particular set up then it should be flawless.
