Demopad+MP3 Media Player

Post by Walkerb » Mon Sep 09, 2013 8:51 am

Hi

Just spent the weekend setting up Demopad to control sky, Cambridge Audio 540 Amp, Panasonic Blu Ray play and Samsung Smart TV and everything is working well (after falling out with the Itach Ilearn ability to capture IR codes).

The next thing I want to do is tried and find a MP3 media player that has an optical out which I can control using Demopad. I currently have over 500GB of MP3 files on a PS3 and if anyone has every used that as a media player they will know it is pretty naff for navigating around lots of albums.

Has anyone out there found a MP3 media player that either can connect to a TV via HDMI and use Demopad to control the player's GUI on the TV screen or a direct link between the media player and Demopad?

Thanks

I would look into an AppleTV with HDMI to TV and Optical to the Amp, run iTunes for the MP3 files from your PC and full control via DemoPad on your iPad, easy integration ;) :D

How are you intergrating iTunes into Demopad?

Hi, I played around with XBMC on a Raspberry Pi - certainly a cheap option :) It has HDMI that I connect to a Pioneer VSX amp and the GUI displays on both TV and/or Demopad. There is a 'standard' remote GUI that displays on Demopad depending on what version of the Linux operating system you use on the Raspberry - all free to download or a few £ ready installed on a SD card from eBay. Check out their websites and forums. You can copy your iTunes library into XBMC and, for example, use an external hard drive linked to the Raspberry depending on how much music you have. You can also play movies through XBMC and live tv though I've never managed to sus tv out :?
You can also use Regex in Demopad to pull song/movie info from XBMC and display it how you want - there is a tutorial on this site and a number of posts - unfortunately this is where I came unstuck as I could never quite got this side of things working. Personally, I'd rather use my Apple TV but only limited control through Demopad using IR codes though I hear only jailbreaking can allow further control, which of course nobody would do
I think Sonos can have a lot of control through Demopad but I don't know anything further.
Good luck and let me know if you come up with a cunning plan :)
